The Colombian President criticized the cabinet, asked the ministers to resign

Colombia President Petro criticized the “inefficient” cabinet, asking all ministers to resign when tensions increased in the government.

“I have asked the ministers and leaders of the administrative agency to resign. There will be some changes in the cabinet to better meet what the people require,” Colombia President Gustavo Petro posted on the commune network. Association X on February 9.

The tensions have increased since the cabinet meeting lasted more than 5 hours broadcast live on February 4, in which President Petro publicly criticized the Government to operate inefficiently. He accused a number of officials, including the Minister of Trade, Education and Health, and delayed the implementation of important projects.

His government is also facing the budget and violence crisis among rebels, blowing into the target to support the poor and bring peace to the country.

The Ministers complained about Armando Benedetti, the former ambassador in Venezuela and one of the president’s close assistants, attending the meeting. Benedetti is being investigated on the sponsorship of the illegal campaign in the president’s 2022 election race and was accused of violence by his ex -wife.

They also disagree with the appointment of Laura Sarabia, 30, former Chief of Mr. Petro’s office, as a foreign minister. Sarabia involved a major corruption scandal investigation and allegedly eavesdropping on her nanny.

One day after the cabinet meeting, Cultural Minister Juan David Correa and Jorge Rojas, head of the Dapre state budget management agency, resigned.

Environment Minister Susana Muhamad then withdrew from his position. Muhamad shared her decision to resign as a “difficulty” and originated from Benedetti’s joining the government.

Muhamad was one of the stars of President Petro’s government at the time he was seeking to show the leading role in global climate diplomacy. She was considered a potential candidate to succeed President Petro, when his term ended in 2026.

Not long after the post X of President Pedro, Labor Minister Gloria Ramirez also announced his resignation. “Politics has no room for factionalism and enter,” she said.
