One monkey “turned off” electricity throughout Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, a large-scale shutdown of electricity happened when the monkey crashed into a transformer at the Panadur substation, JVP News writes.

The power outage, which began on February 9 around noon, forced the inhabitants of Sri Lanka to suffer from the heat at a temperature of more than 30 ° C. The country’s Minister of Energy said that the monkey touched the network transformer, which led to an imbalance in the energy system.

On social networks, residents of Sri Lanka began to compare the incident with the comedy situation, while others noted the vulnerability of the country’s electric network. “One monkey – and complete chaos. Is it time to update the infrastructure?” – wrote one of the users. “Only in Sri Lanka can a monkey disable electricity throughout the country,” another joked.

In addition to Internet memes, the power outage of electricity once again emphasized the ongoing problems of Sri Lanka with energy safety. Experts have long stated that the country’s energy infrastructure is outdated and subject to frequent failures.

Representatives of the largest electric power station Ceylon Electricity Board, where the incident occurred, apologized, but did not explain how one monkey was able to lead to such consequences. They also did not report anything about the fate of the animal.
