After an accident, woman is in a coma for 33 years: What she never learned about her husband

Treviso (Italien) – The world just turned around it. In 1992 the life of Luigina Brustolin (27) suddenly stopped after a car accident. Since then she has been in a coma for 33 years.

What the woman probably never noticed: her daughter died Back then in the back seat. And although her husband always looked after her touchingly, he sought consolation in the arms of another over time.

Relatives had hoped in vain for more than three decades to woke up again. Now she died at the age of 60 – half of her time missed her.

The mother rammed another car

The husband told the Italian newspaper “Il Gazzettino” how difficult the almost eternal tragedy was on the family. It all started on May 23, 1992 with a puzzling Accident.

“That morning I lost everything and my life changed completely,” recalls Franco R. (58). Another car collided in Pederobba near Venice with the VW Gulf of Luigina. The investigators still do not know how this could happen. The young mother suffered a traumatic brain trauma, then she fell into Arrival.

Daughter Sara (1) first survived. Father Franco: “I slept in the intensive care unit for a month.” Then the little girl died in hospital.

Husband: “I never let her down”

Over the next 17 years, Mama Luigina was cared for at home with loving devotion to the whole family. Tied up on the bed, motionless, day by day. Then woman was brought to a special clinic. According to her husband, she was able to breathe and even swallow independently.

Franco found a new partner and got two more children. “I started a new life and some people didn’t like it,” said Falco. He claims: “I never let Luigina down”. On the weekends he often brought her home, introduced his family to her: “For my children, she was just aunt Luigina.”

Apparently not enough for the other relatives. In a funeral notice, Franco is not mentioned in any word, but her siblings, nephews, nieces and friends. On Wednesday the now 60-year-old was in her home country Treviso (Italy) buried.

That happens when you fall into a coma

In a coma (ancient Greek for “deep sleep”), a person loses consciousness. In the case of a severe form, the brain functions are so limited that those affected can no longer be woken up.

With a coma, on the other hand, a minimal awareness can be achieved. Some patients can open their eyes, but are in a “vegetative state”.
