Adrián Simancas, a Chilean Kayakist, has experienced an experience that will hardly forget. During a quiet kayak exit in the Strait of Magellan, it was unexpectedly swallowed by the wide open mouth of a megattera, and then expelled a few moments after, unharmed. The strange meeting took place about 7 days ago, in the meantime the video has become viral.
The episode, taken on video by the father of Adrián, has gone around the world, arousing amazement and curiosity. Despite the apparent violence of the incident, the experts believe that the megattera has not intentionally attacked the man. Rather, it is assumed that the animal has confused the kayak with a small prey, like a fish counter. Once the error is understood, the megattera promptly expelled the kayakist, without causing him any damage.
Megattere are known to be very curious and playful animals. Often they approach boats and swimmers, demonstrating a certain affinity for man. In this case, the megattera may have been simply attracted to the Kayak movement and, in an attempt to examine it more closely, accidentally swallowed it.
Marine experts stressed that this type of accidents are extremely rare. Megattere do not represent a threat to humans and, on the contrary, they are protected animals in many parts of the world. However, it is important to always keep a safe distance when these magnificent cetaceans are observed.
