In May 2024, Michael Wimmer had to leave Austria after 57 games. Now the 44-year-old German has found a new club: together with his long-time assistant Ahmet Koc, he takes over the Scottish first division team Motherwell.
“We are very happy and warmly welcome our new trainer,” says Klub President Kyrk MacMillan. There would have been an enormous number of candidates for the post, “but Michael Wimmer protruded among everyone”.
Motherwell has lost his last five competitive games, the last win was achieved on January 5. In the table, the club is in 8th place with 31 points from 26 games (from 12 teams). In Scotland, the league is shared after 33 laps, Wimmer should lead Motherwell into the top 6 and thus into the master group. Motherwell is currently in 6th place with St. Mirren.
Wimmer should get started in Motherwell as soon as the work permit is there.
