The government is aiming for ‘Flemish acceleration’ for increased productivity and competitiveness

The Flemish government has a plan ready to increase productivity in Flanders and to strengthen the competitiveness of our economy. According to Prime Minister Matthias Diependaele (N-VA), that plan with the name ‘De Vlaamse Gesteling’ uses three yards: a business-friendly climate, robust and solid infrastructure and human capital.

It is an open door, but the Flemish economy and industry go through tough weather. In recent months, the disaster reports rained and certainly from the industry is just sounded.

Prime Minister Diependaele has previously opposed negativity and “defaitism” that is circulating. Now the Flemish government leader comes with a productivity and competitiveness offensive. Together with the entire government, he wants to work on a “Flemish acceleration”.

Permanent role for nuclear energy

The intention is to use “different levers to create higher productivity growth and therefore more prosperity and well -being for every Fleming,” explains Diependaele.

Diependaele fits for “a nice packaging” or “woolly plans”. He wants to take clear, concrete steps in three domains.

For example, work must be made of a “business-friendly climate”, ranging from start-ups and scale-ups to large industrial companies. The administrative burden must be reduced and there must be more room to do business. “The latter may also be taken literally: by mid -this year we will come up with an ambitious plan on the availability of business parks in Flanders.”

In addition, the infrastructure must be robust and solid. This ranges from the infrastructure for ports, water and railways and the strategic transport axes. But, according to Diependaele, nuclear energy will also have to play a lasting role to guarantee our ambition for carbon -free and affordable electricity “.

The third yard is the “human capital”. “We Flemings must have our brains,” said Diependaele. A quality education and an oiled labor market policy are crucial.

“Concrete actions”

“I expect from every government member, including myself of course, from this legislature, concrete actions every year, so that every site is systematically tightened and we can generate that much -needed productivity growth. Today we already give the starting signal for 2025, “says Diependaele.
