The Real Theater obtains four awards in the VII edition of the Opera XXI Awards

The Royal theater has received four awards in the VII Edition of the Opera XXI Awards which have failed this Thursday at the Madrid Coliseum and that recognize the work of the artists, professionals and institutions of the lyric world throughout the 2023-2024 season.

Specifically, the Real has been recognized in best musical direction, Pablo Heras-Casado, by ‘The masters singers of Nuremberg’; Best stage direction, Calixto Bieito, for ‘Lear’; Better production, ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’ (the masters singers of Nuremberg), and best foreign artist, Gerald Finley for his role as Hans Sachs in the opera ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’.

Pablo Heras-Casado, the main guest music director of the Royal Theater, offered a reading of ‘The masters singers of Nuremberg’ full of colors, nuances, intensity and accomplice with the scene of Laurent Pelly. The joint work of both directors, together with a cast – in which he highlighted the presence of Gerald Finley giving life to Hans Sachs, winner of the prize for the best foreign artist in this edition – they have managed to make ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’ (the Nuremberg singing teachers) one of the best opera productions last year.

The production conceived and directed by Calixto Bieito to ‘Lear’, evokes the path of redemption of the king as a kind of viacrucis, located in a conceptual space delimited by burned wood stakes and with a powerful symbolic iconography that goes from the Spanish and Italian baroque to the Central European expressionism, where the family is shown as the germ of the most primitive, wild, exacerbated feelings and passions destructive
