Helsinki Bookstore volume is about to bankrupt

Ten The Helsinki Bookstore, which has been operating for years, is being closed. The co -founder of Helsingin Sanomat tells Helsingin Sanomat Joose Siira.

A volume focused on foreign art and design books, domestic fiction, paperware, and design, fashion and other magazines was opened in Punavuori in 2015. It is another founder Terhi Jääskeläinen.

According to Siira, the closing decision was made by Moomin Characters, who currently owns the bookstore. The reason for the termination is that the trade is no longer able to handle its debts.

“The main owner has decided that the bookstore will not be financed. The store has needed additional money in these few years when Moomin’s Characters have been the owner, ”the Moomin Characters is responsible for publication rights Fredrik curd tells you.

Habit According to Rahka, it will close its doors in the next few days.

“At the end of this month,” he thinks.

“We have contacted potential parties that might be interested in the bookstore, but we have not been able to move forward in the discussions. It would have been meaningful to find a different solution to this situation than the bankruptcy that is likely to be ahead. ”

From the outset, the mission of the Nide store has been to offer a high quality selection, a professional customer service and a holistic experience in a bookstore where you can enjoy, ask and find. The shop was in trouble during the corona pandemia and organized a financial campaign in 2022 to save its operations.

It went well according to Sira. “We had a cash gap at the time and successfully patched it with the campaign.”

However, the campaign helped in a tight situation only for a moment. Shortly thereafter, the volume began negotiations with Moomin Characters, which bought almost the entire bookstore in the bookstore a year and a half ago.

According to Rahka, Moomin Characters have invested in a bookstore, not only in the form of funding but also in the form of live events and marketing assistance.

“We have worked hard in the last five months to get more people in the bookstore. We have done well, but the bookstore would need much more customers, ”Rahka says.

“Stopping is also unfortunate for us. Running a stoneware store in Helsinki by these means we have tried has not been successful. ”

Sincere tells you to hear about the closing decision of the store a week ago.

“Of course it is a pity that this happened, it goes without saying. On the other hand, you may have to think that time is time. It has been as if difficult for many years. Business has been quite a stone, ”Siira says.
