Edward Clugs “Summer Night’s Dream” ballet in Berlin

When actors moan about the waiting of the film set, they should be responsible for the ballet. There are two hours without use – and without movement: So the wardrobe is repaired, the pointed shoe is repaired, the fascia roller is onturning. This is how it happens this morning at the Berlin State Ballet, where Edward Clug pushes a new “summer night dream” towards the final. In a good mood, the choreographer buzzes around, switched from one role to the next, sometimes Oberon, sometimes Titania, Helena, Hermia or Puck-the whole Shakespeare love staff as a solo performance. Meanwhile, two dozen dancers sort each other to the lying circle and wait like the beetles fell on their backs that the Maestro deals with them. Five minutes, ten minutes – Clug cannot be deterred or intimidated by sixty people he conducts through the room: Return in series for the “Ladies and gentlemen” of the state ballet. For this, Milko Lazar composed an attractive original score between Latino rhythms and minimalism à la Phil Glass.
