They invite to reflect on the influence of power and violence in history

The National Theater Company (CNT) designed a challenging program for the first semester of 2025. With a selection of works that explore human contradictions, the labyrinths of power and the perpetual echo of violence, the scenario becomes a field of Symbolic battle, where the viewer will witness the dramatic intensity that shakes consciences and defies comfort codes.

Aurora Cano, director of the CNT, explained that the content of this cycle is organized around three fundamental axes: universal repertoire, tributes to key figures of theater and literature, and projects with a deep social and political character.

This semester is very special because we wanted to create a proposal that is not only a reflection of what is happening in the world, but also a reflection on how violence and power have marked history, both in antiquity and in contemporaneityCano commented at a press conference held at the headquarters of the CNT.

The starting point of this cycle will be the project Spiral: Who can be a judge?which focuses on the three great Greek playwrights: Esquilo, Sophocles and Euripides. Through this proposal, it seeks to explore violence as a cyclical phenomenon that transcends time and borders, linking ancient Greece with war conflicts today.

This initiative is deeply excited because it allows us to reflect on war as an endless cycle. It begins in Troy, but continues in Gaza, in Ukraine, in so many corners of the world where violence continues to mark the storyAurora Cano added.

The first piece of this series will be Ifigenia in Aulidedirected by Gabriela Ochoa, who highlighted the relevance of maintaining loyalty to the original Euripides text.

The sacrifice of Ifigenia, daughter of Agamemnon, focuses on a conflict of loyalty and power, issues that remain relevant in our time. It is a reflection on how the human being faces the dilemmas of sacrifice and moralsOchoa said. The premiere of this work will take place on June 14 in the Hector Mendoza room, at the headquarters of the CNT.

The remaining chapters, Electraof Sophocles, and Eumenidsof Esquilo, counted by different directors, will be presented until 2026.

However, the program will not be limited to the revision of the classics, but will also pay tribute to two fundamental figures of Mexican theater and literature: Rosario Castellanos and Héctor Mendoza.

On the occasion of the native centenary of the Chiapaneca writer, which is held on May 25, the CNT, in collaboration with the Teatro Unam, will present Lampswork written by Elena Guerrero and directed by Mariana García Franco.

Rosario Castellanos was a writer who marked a before and after in Mexican literature, in addition to being an activist who fought for the rights of women and indigenous peoples. New proposals

The CNT will also make space for new proposals that explore poetry and Mexican theater heritage.
