Just under 35 million passengers at Belgian airports in 2024

The total number of passengers at the airports of Zaventem, Charleroi, Ostend, Antwerp and Liège was 7.5 percent higher than in 2023 (when 32.4 million were counted). But only the two largest airports achieved growth. At Brussels Airport, 23.6 million travelers, 6.4 percent more passed last year than in 2023. And Brussels South Charleroi Airport booked a passenger record, with more than 10 million travelers (10.5 million, +12 percent) for the first time .

There were fewer travelers at the smaller airports. The airport of Ostend, who was the last to publish the figures on Thursday, clocked at 352,622 passengers, almost 9 percent less than in 2023. Ostend-Bruges Airport was closed for two months at the beginning of 2024 for renovation of the jobs. Antwerp Airport received almost a fifth fewer travelers (208,845), because airline TUI Fly suspended its flights to and from Antwerp for a while. Liège airport closes the row with 161,936 travelers in 2024, a slight decrease compared to the year before.

Liège is first and foremost a cargo airport, the largest in Belgium. Last year Liege Airport dealt with more than 1.16 million tons of freight, 16 percent more than in 2023. The total freight at Belgian airports – especially Brussels Airport – rose by around 10 percent to more than 1.9 million tonnes.

In 2019, the Belgian airports received a record number of 35.5 million passengers. The freight record, 2.3 million tons, dates from 2021.
