Spain loses against Nicaragua in the qualifiers of the World Baseball Classic

The Spanish male baseball team has lost this Saturday by 2-1 against Nicaragua on day 2 of the qualifying phase for the 2026 World Classic, tarnishing its eve victory over the combined host of China Taipéi, as part of Some qualifiers where South Africa is also competing in the same group.

Again in the colorful Taipei Dome, this time Spain fell against an opponent who on the first day had also expired 2-1 to the South Africans. And as in front of South Africa, Nicaragua’s game before the Spanish team was a pitching duel and where there was a single ‘Home Run’ for side, the only annotations over nine entries.

Brandon Leyton hit Nicaragua the first tabazo in the lower part of the first entrance and Carlos Colmenarez connected the ‘home run’ of the tie in the third entry. However, the body of pitchers and Nicaraguan defensive skill prevented Spain from harming again.

There were several beautiful sets by both teams, but Nicaragua wore in defense more than Spain, especially in the sixth entrance when the Freddy Zamora campo caught with the left hand a ball between second and third to avoid a ‘hit’ to Wander Encarnación .

In the same ‘inning’, Chase Dawson made another trapped when jumping before crashing against the fence of the central garden, in order to take away a ‘hit’ to Rusber Estrada. Another success of Nicaragua’s defense occurred in the upper part of the ninth entrance, when Spain filled the bases with an ‘out’ and Beltré connected a roller between First and Second.

However, Leyton moved to his left to catch the ball, turn and throw second to start a double slaughter that ended the entrance to keep the tie (1-1). Later, thanks to a gold single from Benjamín Alegría to the central garden in the lower part of the tenth ‘inning’, Nicaragua got that final 2-1.

With the bases full and an ‘out’, Alegría connected the launch of the Rhiner Cruz reliever on the central gardener Engel Beltré, who jumped, but failed to capture the ball. Despite this defeat, Spain still seeks to return to the World Classic-equivalent to World Championship-for the first time since its only participation in 2013.
