“Russia is a terrorist state with genocidal objectives,” says Ukraine ambassador to Argentina

In an interview with Clarion In Buenos Aires, days before the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which surprised the world on February 24, 2022, and while a process of peace negotiations between the United States and Russia begins, Klymenko warned that the end of the War will only be possible if kyiv’s allied countries come together to give guarantees of security and a “just and lasting” peace, without concessions and with Absolute respect for their independence and sovereignty.

-What balance does in the third anniversary of the beginning of the war?

-How is Ukraine today? There is a wear of the military forces after three years.

-We have fighting, the Russian invaders failed to capture kyiv. In 2023 and 2024 Ukraine managed to break the Russian maritime blockade in the Black Sea and assured the cereal export corridor. We are guarantors of food security in much of the planet. The Armed Forces of Ukraine also initiated a defensive operation in the Russian region of Kursk. We continue to fight for a fair world order. The defense of Ukraine is the defense of all of Europe, of universal democratic principles.

-Do you think it will be possible to advance in the peace negotiations that the United States proposed to Russia and that they already had the first contacts this week?

-We confess to end the war in 2025. But we insist that no decision on Ukraine can be done without Ukraine. This week was the special envoy of the United States, Keith Kelogg, in kyiv, and we had very constructive meetings. But it is important to have security guarantees for Ukraine. Peace must be fair, lasting. Our independence and sovereignty should be guaranteed. We insist that nothing can be decided on Ukraine without Ukraine. We will not accept the result of any negotiation without the participation of Ukraine.

-This, US President Donald Trump was very aggressive with kyiv, he described Volodimir Zelenski as “dictator” for suspending the 2023 elections and accused him of starting the war. Does the alliance between Ukraine and the United States break?

-We do our best to maintain a constructive dialogue with the US part. As I said, we have had constructive and useful consultations with the envoy of the president of the United States. We hope they provide positive results.

-But Trump’s government showed an important turn compared to Joe Biden’s. The new president of the United States now held out Putin to start peace negotiations. Are you afraid to lose Washington’s support?

-Rusia has not stopped his murderous attacks against innocent civilians in Ukraine. It should be noted that the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court against Putin is still valid for crimes against Ukrainian children. We have to be able to elaborate a joint position with the European countries, with the United States and with all our allies, to achieve guarantees of security and a true, durable peace. We thank the United States all the help that has given us and we have that it continues to support Ukraine.

-The United States economic and military aid was crucial to strengthen the Ukrainian army since the beginning of the war. What can happen if Trump cuts that collaboration?

-With our European partners we try to improve national military production. We have reinforced military and technical cooperation with the countries of Europe and we have significantly improved the national potential in production of drones and other armaments. But we want peace. There is no country more interested in peace than Ukraine. But with respect to our independence and sovereignty. We cannot live without freedom. It is like air for our people.
