Poverty, life imprisonment for millions of Mexicans

Three quarters of Mexicans born in a poor home in Mexico remain in that situation, forever, said Julio Serrano Espinosa, president of the ESPINOSA YGLESIAS STUDIES (CEEY) in the Seminary in the Seminary 30 years of the financial crisis of 1994-1995.

In accordance with the National Council for Evaluation of Social Development Policy (Coneval), León, Guanajuato; Ecatepec de Morelos, State of Mexico, and Iztapalapa, in Mexico City, heads municipalities with the highest number of young people in poverty.

In León, there are 178 thousand 79 individuals in this situation, while in Ecatepec and in Iztapalapa are 169 thousand 69 and 162 thousand 132 young people, respectively.

Puebla, Chimalhuacán and Toluca continue with 147 thousand 521, 115 thousand 806 and 109 thousand 63 in each case.

Other municipalities with a large number of young people in poverty are: Nezahualcóyotl, in the State of Mexico, where 115 thousand 806 live, followed by Tijuana, Baja California, with 90 thousand 217.

The following positions are for the municipalities of Zapopan, Jalisco, and Naucalpan de Juárez, State of Mexico, with 86 thousand 479 and 80 thousand 221, respectively.

Coneval’s data show that the incidence of poverty for the total population in Mexico was 36.3 percent in 2022, which is the most up -to -date data, while for the population of children and adolescents (NNA) of it was 45.8 percent .

Of all the NNA in poverty, four out of 10 live in moderate conditions, and one in 10 in extreme conditions.

The situation of poverty for indigenous childhood and adolescence is particularly serious, according to a joint study of UNICEF and Coneval, 50.2 percent of this group lives in conditions of extreme poverty and 93.9 percent do not have access to social security.

Of all the age groups, the minors in early childhood are the ones who live in conditions of greater poverty (48.1 percent) and those who have less access to social security (59.3 percent).

The analysis highlights that there are great disparities in childhood and adolescent poverty in the Mexican territory: 62.5 percent of childhood and adolescence in the southeast region live in poverty, a high level compared to the 24 percent that occurs in the NNA of the northwest region.

From 2020 to 2022 there were important advances in the decrease in poverty for the entire population, however, the NNA remains the population of the population with the highest levelsis mentioned in the document.
