Ukraine, Meloni al G7: "We have to work together for a right and lasting peace"

“We have to work together for a just and lasting peace”, said the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, in the message to the convention of the conservatives in Washington. Concept also reiterated today by the Premier, during the video conference of the G7 leaders, organized by the Presidency of Turno Canadian, on the occasion of the third anniversary of the Russian attack against Ukraine and in which the Ukrainian President Zelensky also participated.

Italy continues to look, together with the partners of the G7 and to the European and western ones, to the main objective: to put an end to a conflict that has caused an unacceptable number of deaths and destruction in the last three years. The head of the executive therefore supports the efforts in progress to get to the hypothesis of an agreement that – and has repeated it several times – would not have been possible without the resistance of the Ukrainian people. The conviction of the premier is that it is necessary to define effective security guarantees, necessary to prevent future conflicts. And that only in the Euro-Atlantic context, European security is founded. The Prime Minister – the ‘refrain’ in the government – continues to play a role of bridge between Washington and Brussels and today has collected the words of appreciation of Donald Trump who has returned to underline the importance of the work of the Premier. Italy “is going very well”, and with Giorgia Meloni has “very strong leadership”, supported the American president.

The strategy of the Prime Minister remains that of the unit, the request is that everyone is shared by everyone to create the conditions for an agreement. Just when the European Union and the United States seem to be more distant, considering the abstention of the USA on the resolution of the UN General Assembly which condemned the Russian aggression of Ukraine and asked for the return of the territories to Kiev employed.

The resolution presented by Ukraine, and co-sponsored by almost all EU countries, three years after Russian invasion, was approved by 93 countries, including Italy, and rejected by 18. The abstentions were 65 Crosetto, on X.

The head of state also spoke of aggression to Ukraine, Sergio Mattarella reiterating closeness and solidarity “to the courageous Ukrainian resistance in defense of his independence and the freedom of his national choices”. And by invoking the rapid start of interviews so that it arrives “to the definition of a just peace, in line with the principles of the UN from effective safety measures that make it effective and definitive”.

Even the diplomatic councilor of Palazzo Chigi, Fabrizio Saggio, in a letter sent to the president of the Ukrainian Christian Association in Italy, Oles Horodetskyy, sent the premier’s support for the Ukrainian cause, paying homage to the heroic resistance of the people by Kiev. On the occasion of the anniversary of the war, the facade of the government headquarters was illuminated with the colors of the Ukraine flag.
