MTV is sold to the Nordic Media House – “A Really Historical Day”

Norwegian Mediatalo Schibsted Media purchases a television channel in MTV in Finland.

Schibsted Media has signed an agreement with current owner Telia, according to which it buys a Swedish TV4 and a Finnish MTV.

The purchase price is SEK 6.55 billion, or approximately EUR 590 million on Tuesday.

“TV4 and MTV are reliable and independent news actors and national cornerstones in the protection of democratic values. They are also known for their high quality entertainment sports and drama content. The channels employ about 1,200 people in two countries.

In Finland Schibsted is currently known for the podme podcast service. Tori.fi was also part of it, but in January its background company separated into a separate company.

“MTV’s strong position in the Finnish market and its attractive brands are perfectly suited to our goals. We are looking forward to supporting MTV’s leading position in the future of news, sports, drama and entertainment, ”says Juvik Tveitnes.

MTV’s umbrellas include TV channels MTV, SUB, AVA and MTV Katsomo streaming service. In addition, the company has a news supply on different channels.

MTVoriginally advertising TV-Reklam AB, started his journey by producing an advertising-funded TV show for the channel he rented from YLE. In 1993 it got its own channel.

MTV was sold to the Swedish Bonnier Media Group in 2005 and further to Telia in 2019.

In recent years, MTV has made millions of losses as viewers on traditional television go online.

The transaction is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year, provided that the authorities are approval.
