These are the stars of the Nordic World Cup

It is no surprise that several Norwegians appear on the list of potential top stars. But Austria is also prominently represented.

Jarl Magnus Riiber (Nor, Nordic combination)

The 27-year-old Norwegian has been combining ski jumping and cross-country skiing for years. He has celebrated 78 individual successes in the World Cup since 2016 and is a record winner, and he won eight times gold and three times silver at World Championships. So far, he was “only” on the top platform this season, which is also due to a chronic bowel disease. This is also the reason why Riiber leaves after the season. Before that, he wants to clear again at the home World Cup. Whether it will actually be his last World Cup is not yet quite fixed. There are rumors that he could return to the big stage as a jumper.

Johannes Hösflot Kläbo (Nor, Langlauf)

95 World Cup victories, twelve World Cup medals, nine of them in gold. In addition five gold at the Olympics. The 28-year-old Norwegian dominates the action among the cross-country skiers. Kläbo is an all -rounder, is one of the favorites both in the sprint and in the 50s. The question is not whether he makes a medal, but how many he will win. In any case, he knows the trails very well, Trondheim is his hometown.

Therese Johaug (Nor, cross -country skiing)

After two and a half years of baby break – daughter Kristin was born in May 2023 – the 36 -year -old Norwegian wanted to know again. The home World Cup in Trondheim was a main reason for her comeback. With four World Cup victories this season, she quickly found the connection to the top of the world. After her success at the Tour de Ski, she retired from the World Cup – to prepare for the World Cup in the best possible way. The three-time Olympic champion already has 14 World Cup golds. In Trondheim, she could theoretically even unlock to record woman Marit Björgen (Nor, 18 times World Cup gold) in the eternal World Cup ranking.

ÖSV-Adler Tschofenig, Hörl, Kraft (AUT, Ski jumping)

There is no way around Austria’s ski jumpers this season. With Daniel Tschofenig, Jan Hörl and Stefan Kraft there are three potential stars for this World Cup.
Tschofenig: The 22-year-old Carinthian made the breakthrough this year, he has already celebrated eight individual victories. He comes to Trondheim as an overall World Cup leader and as the winner of the four-hill tour with lots of tailwind (in this case in exceptional cases in ski jumping), where he chases his first World Cup individual medal.
Hörl: “No risk, no fun” is the motto of the 26-year-old Salzburg. After all, this has already brought him to five World Cups. This season he also captivates with his consistency (2 victories, 9 second places, 2 third places), in the overall World Cup he is the first hunter of compatriot Tschofenig. At the world championships, he has so far been able to clear a silver and bronze medal in the team.
Kraft: The disappointment of the narrowly missed victory on the four-hill tour is digested, the 31-year-old Salzburg comes to Trondheim. Power is the Olympic champion, has already collected 13 World Cup medals – three of them in gold. He is also a triple overall World Cup winner and celebrated 45 individual victories. So far, strength has landed on the Stockerl in all of its five World Cup appearances.

Nika Prevc (Slo, Skiispringen)

The 19-year-old Slovenin, who was still 19-year-old until mid-March, dominates the World Cup season and is on the point of winning the large crystal ball again. Before her second World Championships, she kept in eleven seasonal victories, the youngest six competitions have all won them. Finally, the PrevC success was mostly superior with a double-digit point lead. Trondheim is about your first World Cup medal. With gold she could even outperform her big brother Peter. Although he is a ski flight world champion, he “only” got silver and two bronze in Nordic title fights.
