Occupied for 79 days by migrants, the management of the Lyrique Gaîté is set back

More than 440 people live today in the Parisian theater which claims an intervention by the authorities, failing which the company will break its contract with the Paris City Hall.

In a statement released Thursday, the management of the company which manages the Lyrique gaiety made an alarming inventory of the situation in which the theater is found today. Since December, young migrants, supervised by a collective, have invested the Grands boulevards room. Management estimates them today at more than 400, awaiting a settlement of their situation and a cottage.

“For 79 days, the lyric gaiety has called for help in vain in the face of an occupation it undergoes and an unworthy human situation”explains the management of the establishment, which now judges the situation “Explosive, with untenable promiscuity, and violence linked to this promiscuity”. Management thus deplores “Several fire alerts”dont “A start of fire in the spaces occupied on February 21, having required the intervention of the Paris firefighters and the national police”.

After the withdrawal of employees on Tuesday, these considering that the situation constitutes “A serious and imminent danger for them, for people who occupy the place and for the building”, The managers of the managing company announce that “Without intervention by the authorities by Friday, the Gaîté Lyrique SAS and its teams will be forced to leave the building and to suspend the execution of the contracts of the providers in charge of fire safety, safety, hygiene and the Cleanliness, maintenance, waste collection ”. They notably challenge the town hall of Paris, owner of the theater, and the public authorities.

About 200 young migrants had invested in the premises on December 10, with the support of a collective for migrant rescue. Some have been refused recognition of their minority and they have filed an appeal which can take several months. At the end of January, the theater team called for a “Quick resolution of the situation by shelter”judging “Unthinkable to reject more than 400 people on the street without solution”.

Seized by the City of Paris, owner of the premises, the judge in summary proceedings of the administrative court ordered the evacuation on Thursday, February 14, within one month. The town hall indicated that it would nevertheless not call on the police, claiming that it has launched this procedure to force the State, competent in terms of emergency accommodation, to “Take responsibility”.
