Trump extends one more year the national emergency for the Ukraine War on the eve of Zelenski’s visit

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has extended this Thursday the National Emergency Declaration with respect to Ukraine, decreed in 2014 after the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsula, on the eve of the arrival this Friday at the White House of the Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelenski.

The decree mentions “the unusual and extraordinary threat to national security and foreign policy of the United States” that involve the actions and policies of certain actors against democratic institutions in Ukraine, their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Likewise, the text mentions that through this declaration the sanctions imposed in March 2014 continue, as well as those of September 2018 and more recently those in force since February 2022, on the occasion of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has been three years old.

The extension arrives on the eve of the imminent and expected meeting this Friday at the White House between Trump and Zelenski, who has run the risk of not being held by reluctance of the American, who was finally persuaded by President Emmanuel Macron, at the request of kyiv, according to the French press.
