Chinese Alibaba will invest 50 billion euros in AI and Cloud

The Chinese giant Alibaba announced on Monday investing 50 billion euros in artificial intelligence (AI) and the cloud, a few days after a good auspicious meeting between its co -founder Jack Ma and President Xi Jinping.

The group based in Hangzhou (east of China) has some of the country’s most used online trades in the country (notably Taobao) and is one of the technological mastodons of the Asian giant.

Alibaba plans to invest “at least 380 billion yuan (50 billion euros) over the next three years to advance its cloud computing and AI infrastructure,” the company said in a statement. This strategy aims to “strengthen the commitment” of the group “in favor of long-term technological innovation” and “underlines the emphasis on the company focused on AI”, he said.

Alibaba, however, did not detail how these 50 billion euros will be divided between the cloud (remote computer) and artificial intelligence.

A record investment for the group

In any case, this investment will exceed the total IA and Cloud group expenses in the past decade, the company said.

This announcement comes after the participation of the group’s co -founder last week, Jack Ma, in a rare meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and several figures in the private sector, considered another positive signal for the technology sector.

Alibaba had also announced a few days later a turnover up 8 % in the third quarter of its offbeat financial year, higher than expected, at 280 billion yuan (36.8 billion euros).

These results “testify to the significant advances in our user -centered strategy first, guided by artificial intelligence (AI) and the resumption of growth in our core business”, was then congratulated Eddie Wu, CEO of Alibaba.

The Chinese technological sector had been for several years, from 2020, the target of the authorities, who intended to regulate a formerly regulated industry. A campaign that had greatly shaken these businesses and Alibaba’s affairs.

Technological giants find colors

But these technological giants have gradually found colors, especially in recent months. They are also carried by the optimism of investors in the face of Chinese advances in terms of AI, with the success of the conversational robot of the startup Deepseek.

This situation comes at a time when China is desperately attempting to relaunch domestic consumption, sluggish from the pandemic, against a background of real estate crisis, high unemployment among young people and household uncertainty about the future.

During his meeting with private leaders last week, Xi Jinping said that the current economic difficulties were “overcome”. Words interpreted as a sign of support for technological giants that have an important role to play in stimulating consumption.

Jack Ma is no longer the leader of Alibaba, but he would keep an important participation in society. His participation in the meeting with Xi Jinping was interpreted as a form of rehabilitation for this charismatic figure of the business world, which had made a low profile since 2020 after making remarks openly criticizing the financial regulators.
