Ramadan, the month of fasting and prayer kicks off

Ramadan’s month has started for millions of Muslims in the world. Today is the first day of fasting and prayer. Ramadan’s month is the ninth of the Islamic lunar calendar. Most Muslims fast from the first light of dawn (Fajr) until the complete sunset of the sun (Maghrib). The interruption of fasting (IFTAR) is preceded by a short prayer.

In Iran, home of Sciism, it will be tomorrow the first day of the month of Ramadan. In the Gaza strip the beginning of the Ramadan coincides with the end of the first phase of the fragile truce after months of conflict between Israel and Hamas, broke out with the attack of 7 October 2023 in Israel. In Lebanon Ramadan begins after months of hostility between Israel and Hezbollah. For Syria it is the first after-Assad Ramadan.

In the world there are about 1.9 billion in the world. They live mostly in Indonesia, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. In Italy, according to the union of Islamic communities, there are over 2.5 million. The last day of Ramadan is celebrated EID AL-FITR.
