United Kingdom and France intend to lead peace mission in Ukraine

British Prime Minister Keir Strmer announced on Sunday (2) that the United Kingdom and France, as well as “possibly one or two other countries,” will lead a project that aims to cease fire in the conflict between Ukraine and the Russian invaders. The discussion, which featured French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky took place earlier this afternoon during a security summit that brings together several world leaders in London, England.

“We have to find a way to work all together. Because, in the end, we had three years of bloody conflict. Now we need to reach this lasting peace,” Stmerer said. “The United Kingdom, along with France and possibly one or two, will work with Ukraine in a plan to stop the fighting, and then discuss this plan with the United States,” the Briton told local press.

Yesterday, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, British Prime Minister secured a $ 2.8 billion loan (R $ 16.3 billion at 28/2) to Ukraine. “The United Kingdom continues to defend Ukraine. Today’s agreement, which contributes to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, confirms this,” said Ukraine Minister of Finance, Serhii Marchenko.

In addition to French, British and Ukrainians, the security summit in favor of Ukraine is expected to count on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Premier, Olaf Scholz, as well as leaders from countries such as Denmark, Turkey, Italy, Norway and the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The reinforcement of European support to Ukraine comes after the turbulent meeting between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, in which the American accused the Ukrainian leader of “ingratitude” and demanded that Zelensky accept the conditions discussed by Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in early February.
