Münchner State Painting Collections: Internal criticism of dealing with Nazi robbery

A document available to the SZ suggests that the handling of Nazi robbery was criticized years ago in the Bavarian State Painting Collections. It was written by the two representatives of the general director Bernhard Maaz at the time.

On Monday of this week at a quarter after ten, the employees of the Bavarian State Painting Collections in Munich Maxvorstadt left their desks and gathered in the Modern Pinakothek. Markus Blume, Bavaria’s Minister of Science and Art, had invited. The “current reporting damaged the reputation of the state painting collections and did not smear back before disparaging the employees of the Free State of Bavaria”, he had written in his email. “With a view to this situation, it is very important to me to contact you directly and personally.”
