Poland wants to own nuclear weapons

Speaking to the Polish Parliament on March 7, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said it was “seriously exchanging” with France about the ability to expand the protective nuclear cell of Paris. He also emphasized that Poland could not limit himself with ordinary weapons.

“It is necessary to understand that Poland must achieve the most modern abilities related to nuclear weapons and non -traditional weapons. This is a race for security, not for war,” he said and mentioned the case of Ukraine, the country has abandoned the nuclear arsenal and is in conflict with Russia.

Prime Minister Tusk also mentioned the possibility of increasing the size of the normal Polish military force to 500,000, compared to 200,000 soldiers today. “We will try to improve the model later this year so that every adult men in Poland are trained in combat, this reserve force is enough to cope with possible threats,” he added.

The Polish military is the third largest force in NATO, after the US and Türkiye, and the largest among the European Union member countries (EU).

The Polish Prime Minister’s speech was made when Europe was increasingly concerned about the possibility that US President Donald Trump turned away from Western ally, the geopolitical change that Warsaw considered a potential threat to the survival of the nation.

“The Polish people will not accept that we are completely helpless and helpless if President Trump decides to adjust the policy. Poland does not change the viewpoint of basic needs is to maintain the closest relationship possible with the US and NATO,” he said.

Poland is currently the most spending country for NATO, with the defense budget expected to account for 4.7% of GDP this year. Prime Minister Tusk told the National Assembly that military spending should increase to 5% of GDP, the figure proposed by President Trump.
