“The film industry is one of the most polluting”: in dawn, the audiovisual is more eco -responsible

At the OG studio, the coffee is served in a ceramic mug and the touillette is made of wood. This small gesture, repeated all years long, has a significant impact. Virtue, in terms of environment, sometimes nestles where it is not expected. Recently, the company based in the agglomeration of Troyes (Aube), one of the references in the audiovisual field in the Grand Est, is committed to the Ecoprod approach. An association that militates for ecological and sustainable practices in the audiovisual industry.

At first glance, everything opposes these two universes. “The film industry is one of the most polluting. We have to move a lot, to transport a lot of equipment and build decorations that will be destroyed just after. Without forgetting that we often eat outdoors with disposable dishes, ”admits Olivier Gobert, the founder of the OG studio. “But even before I was a member, I have always paid attention to our practices,” he said.

Carpooling and train rather than the plane

The Ecoprod association was founded fifteen years ago. On a large scale, the TF 1 and M 6 groups quickly validated the process, giving credibility to the association. Since then, the concept has flourished and more and more audiovisual companies have agreed to play the game. The OG studio is the first in dawn to take the plunge. “The association offers in particular training and there are also many reasons of land from professionals on what works or not,” notes Olivier Gobert.

In the future, the professional plans to invest in a vehicle where he can transport more people. On the other hand, riding electric seems to him delicate in the current state. “We do too many kilometers in a year. The batteries do not yet have enough autonomy for long journeys and we would have to recharge too often. It must remain a relevant approach. »»

Data storage is also one of the levers for audiovisual companies to reduce their carbon footprint. “The preservation of data is essential in our profession. For current projects, we work with small servers. The rest of the data is stored on discs that are not connected, ”lights up Olivier Gobert.

The material sold for a second life

For the equipment, it produces little waste directly. “We regularly renew our equipment. We sell it, so devices often have a second life. I also keep certain things but it is above all for sentimental value. What we keep the longest is the feet for light or for the photo. For the sets, we try not to throw too much and put away so that it serves again later. »»

Lighting finally is one of the areas where audiovisual professionals have considerably reduced their energy expenditure in recent years. “Before, we used tungsten lamps. From now on, we have very good performance with the LEDs and this makes it possible to divide the energy consumed by about ten, “concludes the founder of the OG studio who, by the way, refutes any notion of greenwashing. “There are things to do but it must be common sense and that it is not a punitive approach. »»
