From turkeys to the Harley, so the EU responds to Trump. All products affected by duties

European Union officially enters the commercial war against United States responding to the American choice to introduce 25% duties on European steel and aluminum (including derivative products). In addition to ‘defrosting’ the rates that were blocked in a previous agreement for a value of approximately 4.5 billion euros, puts a table on the table New list of American products which could be affected by duties for a total value of up to 21 billion euros.

The list, officially presented by the European Commission, is still the subject of consultations with the Member States and the interested parties, but already clearly aims for sectors with high symbolic and political value for the US economy. According to Brussels, the approach adopted is “intelligent”: hit where it hurts the United States, but limiting the damage to the European industry. “We do not want to penalize ourselves, but react in a firm way to a measure that we consider deeply wrong,” explained a high European official.

Among the products included in the list (still being defined): the SOYBEAN coming in particular by states like Louisiana, a fief of the Mike Johnson Chamber speaker. It is already the subject of retaliation by other countries. Beef and poultry; Key sectors for states by republican majority such as Nebraska and Kansas; industrial products, such as ovens, stoves, freezers, tosaerba, All assets for which the EU believes that it has internal alternatives.

The iconic Harley-Davidson, Already a target of previous European countermeasures, and for which Brussels encourages the Made in Europe. And again: wooden products, Fundamental for the economy of states such as Georgia, Virginia and Alabama, and considered strategic inputs for the US manufacturing sector.
The goal, explain from Brussels, is clear: “hitting crucial sectors for the US economy, many of which are located in politically sensitive states, without damaging the European interest”.

The package, described as “balanced”, will be activated starting from half April, after the completion of the technical and political procedures. Meanwhile, the window for negotiations with Washington remains open, but the EU makes it known that it is ready to negotiate, react and also suck if necessary.
