Agrana closes 2 sugar factories, 270 employees before job loss

The decision to close two production sites is “difficult but necessary,” said Agrana boss Stephan Büttner in a broadcast. This measure is “an important part of the strategic realignment of the group, with which long -term stabilization and competitiveness of domestic sugar production is to be achieved”. Increasing production costs, increasing competitive pressure due to the decline in sugar consumption in the EU, market liberalizations and regulatory requirements, the continuation of production at two locations in Austria and the Czech Republic “made economically pregnant”, said Agrana.
