Huawei’s suspicion of corruption in the EU Parliament

According to Belgian prosecutors, several people have been arrested in a corruption story where a Chinese Huawein Well-working lobbyists are suspected of having bribed former and existing EU Parliament members.

Authorities are undergoing an investigation into active corruption, counterfeit documents and preliminary money laundering charges in the European Parliament, said a spokesman for the Belgian Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday.

According to the authorities, the suspected bribery has benefited from Chinese Huawei, the world’s largest network device manufacturer and also manufactures mobile phones.

According to news agencies, police have made about 21 searches in Brussels and elsewhere in Belgium and Portugal. In addition, one person has been arrested in France.

The detainees are questioned about suspected bribery and documentary figures against the European Parliament.

“We must finally admit that the risk of corruption in Brussels is high because the European Union is so influential,” Freund said.

He criticizes the parliament for trying to reform lobbying practices, but according to Freund, the reality is that the lobby rules are not monitored or complied with, which increases the risk of corruption.

“If doubts are confirmed, Huawein must face the consequences,” Freund says.
