Marathon, Rome stadium and Flaminio: the words of the councilor Onorato

The Marathon of Rome, the stadiums of Rome and Lazio, the international tennis but also the six nations of Rugby and the Serie A competitions at the Olimpico. All in a single city increasingly ready to host the great events as explained by the commissioner for great events, sports, tourism and fashion of Roma Capitale, Alessandro Onorato, in an interview with Adnkronos.

The thirtieth marathon of Rome has record numbers and arrives in the jubilee year, and for the first time the finish line is at the Circus Maximus.

“It will be a great show for a record edition with over 50 thousand members. It is proof that our heritage can be protected and enhanced even with the great events, which are a means of promoting historical places in a more modern key. The city is preparing to live a weekend of celebration, both at a sporting and social level: among the six nations of Rugby with Italy-Irland on Saturday, the marathon and Rome-Cagliari. Giannini and all the law enforcement officers who will allow the city to host events from tens of thousands of people simultaneously and safely, including 20 thousand Irish coming for the six nations and another 20 thousand foreigners who will run the marathon “.

At what point is the project for the Rome stadium, is it true that it could be presented on the Capitol on April 21, Christmas of Rome?

“The Municipality of Rome has done everything he had to do in record time. Now it’s up to society.”

As for the Lazio stadium, before evaluating Lotito’s project, must the Capitol pronounce on that presented by the association of companies which includes Roma swimming?

“The premise is that, independently of Roma Nuoto or Lazio, our goal is to put the first stone to reopen the Flaminio. It should be remembered that the project presented under the Council Rays from Roma Nuoto have reactivated it with the Conference of Services. And in recent months we have followed the works with the utmost transparency and speed, as we always do for each project. In the coming weeks the process will be concluded”.

There was the presentation of the new project of the Foro Italico for the International of Italy with the inclusion of the Marble stadium, yet another upgrade for the tournament.

“The level of the International of Italy is raising from year to year with a great commitment of sport and health and Federtennis. A growth that goes hand in hand with that of a city that is changing face thanks to the work of the Gualtieri junta and many public and private investments. The Italian and foreign enthusiasts who will come to the Foro Italico for the great tennis, as well as admiring a renewed site, will find a more modern, attractive and welcoming Rome”.

The international tennis of Rome can become the fifth Slam and what impact could they have on the city?

“It would be a great result. Rome is no longer the city of ‘no’, there is a different approach. Rome must be ambitious, without limits. I am convinced, and exponential growth numbers of these three years prove it, that large events are a flywheel for the growth of the city: they create economic repercussions, new jobs and are an amazing promotional showcase for Rome”.

Rome is increasingly the city of great sporting events and beyond, do you already have new challenges in mind?

“It will be a very intense summer season, we raise the bar every year. In addition to the many sporting events and events that have become a tradition, such as the TIM Summer Hits with free admission to Piazza del Popolo, here will play the best Italian and foreign artists here: from Achille Lauro to Ed Sheeran, from Duran Duran to Cremonini, from Gianna Nannini to Zucchero and, just to name a few, last, Unique fashion events that the whole world will speak.
