Vietnam Airlines resumed the direct flight of Hanoi – Moscow

This information was announced by Vietnam National Airlines on March 14. Previously, Vietnam Airlines stopped operating the Hanoi – Moscow route from March 2022 because of the tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

As planned, the airline will restore the flight route connecting Hanoi and the capital of Russia from May 8. In the first phase, Vietnam Airlines operated 2 trips per week on Tuesday and Thursday with a large Boeing B787. From July 2026, the frequency may increase to 3 flights a week.

During the mission of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Russia in October 2024, overseas Vietnamese also expressed the desire to increase the frequency of trade flights between Vietnam and Russia to serve the travel and trade needs between the two communities.

Currently, Russia’s Iaero has flights from Irkusk to Hanoi with a frequency of 2 flights per week. From the beginning of last year, Ho Chi Minh City flight route to Moscow was also restored.

Russia is one of the key markets for Vietnam’s tourism and trade. In 2024, the total number of visitors between the two countries reached more than 220,000, more than 2.3 times higher than 2023. However, this figure remained only 26% compared to 2019.

According to Vietnam Airlines, the direct flight of Hanoi – Moscow will create favorable conditions for the strong recovery of the aviation industry and tourism of the two countries. From now until the end of the year, the airline is expected to open and restore 15 international routes to important destinations such as Italy, Russia, Denmark, China, India, Japan, Korea, UAE.
