Mainz gets a dot outnumbered against Freiburg

In front of 33,305 spectators, Jonathan Burkardt met in the 34th minute and Andreas Hanche-Olsen (74th) for the home side who had to outnumber a half-time after a red card for Dominik Kohr (44.). Michael Gregoritsch (58th) and Lukas Kübler (79th) scored the goals for the guests.

Burkardt ends Freiburg Zu-Null series

The lead for the 05s fell by chance. Anthony Caci simply hit the ball from the right side flat in front of the gate, where Burkardt only had to hold his foot completely freely. It was already the 15 -year -old striker’s 15th goal. Burkardt thus ended the club record series by Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, who had to grab behind for the first time after 609 minutes.

Shortly before the break there was excitement. After a foul from Kohr to Lukas Höler on the penalty area border, referee Benjamin Brand warned the Mainz defender and gave penalty. But then the video assistant switched on. After studying the pictures in detail, Brand took the yellow card and the penalty back, but Kohr showed red due to emergency brake. FSV goalkeeper Robin Zentner fought out the following free kick by Höler with a brilliant parade.

With a man more on the lawn, after the restart, the guests pressed the equalization that was not long in coming. Günter flanked in the middle, where Gregoritsch came freely to the header and hentner did not give a chance.

The Mainz goalkeeper subsequently moved into the focus and saved his team from the deficit against Höler with a sensational rescue act. Shortly afterwards, Zentner remained the winner again in a header from the SC striker.

But then Mainz suddenly got the second air and, despite the outnumbered, played aggressively forward. The courage was rewarded when Hanche-Olsen hit the head of the Freiburg defense after a mistake. However, the joy did not last long because Kübler still had a suitable answer ready.
