Seven Brazilian teams are involved in the Libertadores draw.
The country’s representatives are Botafogo, Flamengo, Palmeiras, Inter, Fortaleza, Sao Paulo and Bahia – the last to secure a place, after going through the preliminary phase.
In the South American Cup draw there are also seven Brazilian teams. Atletico-MG, Cruzeiro, Grêmio, Vasco, Fluminense, Vitória and Corinthians – who disputed the preliminary phase of Libertadores but could not advance to the group stage.
There is a ‘lock’ in the draw that prevents teams from the same country from being faced in the group stage, with one exception: teams that came from the preliminary phase. Thus, Bahia can find another Brazilian in the key.
Four Brazilian clubs are key heads in Libertadores: Botafogo, Palmeiras, Flamengo and São Paulo. The pots were defined by Conmebol’s ranking and included the 2024 Libertadores and South American champions: Botafogo and Racing-ARG, respectively.
Inter is in pot 2, Fortaleza is in pot 3, and Bahia is in pot 4. Thus, they will have a more traditional opponent in the first phase: River Plate-ARG, Peñarol-Uru, National-Uru and Racing-ARG are the possible key heads for these Brazilians.
