Google acquires the Wiz cybersecurity company for USD 32,000 million and is the biggest purchase of its history

This is the most important acquisition made so far by Google and its Alphabet parent home, which thus reinforces its position in the field of computer security, considered a growing market.

In 2022, Google had already acquired another cybersecurity company, the American Mandiant, for 5.4 billion dollars.

Until now, the largest operation of the Mountain View (California) headquarters went back to 2012, when it bought Motorola Mobility, for 12.5 billion dollars.

Founded just five years ago, Wiz had already been contacted by Google in 2024but the Board of Directors rejected the offer, estimated by several US media at 23,000 million dollars.

In an internal message to the employees of the company based in New York, the director and co -founder Assaf Rappaport indicated that the group preferred to prepare for an IPO.

After that setback, Google returned with a significantly superior offer. The Californian giant did not hesitate to put on the table twice the assessment of Wiz in a recent sale of shares, at the end of 2024.

“Artificial intelligence presents new risks, but also new opportunities”Said the head of Google, Like Pichai, during a telephone conference.

The integration of Wiz into Google “will accelerate the capacity of companies to strengthen their safety, while reducing costs, and promoting the adoption of distance computing (in the cloud),” he added.

Wiz achieved 500 million dollars in recurring revenues last year and expects to exceed 1,000 million dollars in 2025.

The growing use of the cloud is increasing the risk of cyber attacks, since companies use infrastructure located in different places.

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) requires that data centers provide processing and storage capacity, which makes the cloud even more important.

Google, a small actor in the cloud just ten years ago, gained progressively power, to the point of reaching sales of 43,000 million dollars in this activity last year (+30% in a year).

Wiz is distinguished by designing a computer security model based on the use of the cloud. He currently equips half of the 500 largest US companies.

“Our mission is to help all companies to ensure everything they do and execute in the cloud, whatever that cloud,” Rappaport said at the telephone conference. “Cloud migration has transformed the way of creating software.”

Wiz was founded by four Israelis, including Rappaport, former member of the Israeli Army Computer Intelligence Service.

Before, the co -founders had already created a first company, Adallom, dedicated to protecting remote software (SAAS), programs used by companies through the cloud.

In 2015, Adallom sold to Microsoft for 320 million dollars. Microsoft, like Google, was stepping on the cloud and intended to strengthen its cybersecurity measures.
