Champions League women: Bayern Munich loses quarter -final first leg against Lyon

The FC Bayern footballers are in the Champions League in front of the end in the quarter -finals. In the strong comeback by goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs, the German champion lost the first leg in front of his own audience against the favorite record winner Olympique Lyon despite a good performance 0: 2 (0: 1). Grohs kept the defeat within limits: 120 days after her last game so far for the team of coach Alexander Straus, she parried a penalty (45.+5).

Lyon, who has won the Champions League eight times, was in the game from the start and took the lead in a phase when Bayern was increasingly better in the game by the Malawian international Tabitha Chawinga (35th minute). Melchie Dumornay (65th) destroyed the hopes of the brave hosts to a turn. The first semi -finals in four years has moved far away. Bayern failed in the preliminary round last season.

The FC Bayern soccer players get an optimal start to the decisive season phase with the victory against Wolfsburg. The rival, on the other hand, must charge its self-confidence before the Champions League duel with Barcelona.

After the 3: 1 in the Bundesliga league game on Friday against VfL Wolfsburg, Straus had changed his starting eleven in a total of six positions and, among other things, put Grohs in the goal. The Munich women kept well against it and initially did not allow the offensive guests around the German ex-national player Dzsenifer Marozsán.

It was also offensive after about 25 minutes better for the Munich women, but just when they increasingly caught the courage demanded by Straus, “playing their own game”, the damper came: The newly entered Swede Linda Sembrant lost the ball on the right defense, Chawinga ran and left no chance of defense.

A tumor disease was discovered in Grohs in October. At the beginning of February, she completed her first competitive game for the second team at VfL Bochum (0: 2). When she returned to the big stage, she showed a strong performance, the penalty of the American Lindsey Heps, which captain Sarah Zadrazil had caused, she parried brilliantly. Even after the break, Grohs thwarted several major chances of the French. With Dumornay’s hit, she had no chance again.
