Some garbage truck that runs out, stormed by local residents with bags of waste: “Since the strike, the rats have been walking here on the street”

A car from the garbage -running service in Birmingham, British, was attacked on Tuesday by local residents. “It was as if we gave away free ice creams or other delicacies,” it sounds. But it was just desperate people who wanted to get rid of their garbage. Because the garbage collectors have been in strike for a week and rats literally walk across the street.

The garbage truck, which was called to remove a first load of garbage, had to leave early. The staff was surrounded by angry residents with garbage bags. “Although it is forbidden, they threw their waste into the body that was full in no time,” it sounds. The police even had to be called in because the staff felt threatened.

Since last week, garbage collectors have been struck en masse, causing garbage bags to accumulate in the streets. “Rats and other vermin are now just walking across the streets. And the stench is not to harden,” it sounds.

Storm

And since there is no end of the strike in sight, the mayor claimed a garbage truck to clean up part of the remaining garbage left behind. But that was calculated outside the local residents. They stormed the collection service in no time. Even though their arrival was not announced in advance.

Kerry Jenkins, Labor councilor for the Moseley district, said that the mobile collection service that was attacked on Tuesday was introduced a few years ago to help residents with the removal of bulky waste, furniture and electrical appliances. She said that the service, which is planned months in advance, is not intended for household waste, but that she understood why people brought their waste.

A cop said that people were warned that they would be fined if they dumped their waste on the street. But that does not scare many for a long time. Rather a fine than rats in the house. So they dumped their garbage in and next to the waste truck en masse.

From other neighborhoods

And that was not the agreement, the garbage collectors only had to clean up the garbage that there was all the longest.

According to a resident of Anderon Park Road, where the streets and sidewalks are full of garbage, the garbage does not only come from local residents. “People come here by car from other neighborhoods, park themselves and throw their garbage bags on the sidewalks and leave again. A real shame,” it sounds.

Members of the union Unite started strikes in January, but just over a week ago they proceeded to large -scale action because of a dispute about wages and working conditions. And for the time being there is no question yet. So the garbage will remain standing for a while.
