The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin sent a message to the head of the Syrian state Ahmad Ashharaa. “He supported his efforts to stabilize the situation in the country in the interests of ensuring its sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity,” the official said.
“The invariable readiness of Russia to develop practical interaction with the leadership of Syria has been confirmed to the whole complex of two-way agenda in order to strengthen traditionally friendly Russian-Syrian relations,” Interfax quoted it.
Russia provided significant support to the Bashar al -Assad regime. In this country, the Syrian dictator and his loved ones found refuge after their overthrow by the Haiyat Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group, led by Ash-Sharaa, which was then better known under the name Abu Muhammad al-Julani.
However, Moscow is extremely interested in maintaining its bases in Latakia and Tartus. Representatives of the new Syrian leadership expressed readiness for dialogue if it would be beneficial to Syria.
