The joint commission of the Knesset on the defense budget, chaired by Julia Edelstein (Likud), approved the budget of the Ministry of Defense for the final reading for 2025.
The size of the budget will be 136.03 billion shekels. Details of the budget are not published (it is coordinated by members of the Commission on Foreign Affairs and Defense and the Financial Commission at joint closed meetings).
At the same time, Edelstein emphasized that hundreds of millions of shekels were allocated in the budget to strengthen the borders of Israel with Jordan. The budget of the wounded rehabilitation department was also significantly increased.
Recall that in 2024, in the year of intensive hostilities in the north and south, the real defense budget amounted to 177 billion shekels. Before the war, the defense budget did not exceed 70 billion shekels per year
Recall that a special commission for the formation of the defense budget for the next ten years under the leadership of Professor Yaakov Nagel recommended allocating 275 billion shekels on the defense budget, of which 60 billion shekels – for the rehabilitation of the wounded.
