Hundreds of thousands of people gathered again in Istanbul, at a demand for the release of Imamoglu mayor.
Ogture Ozel, the leader of the opposition People’s Republican Party, said that millions of Turks demanded the release of Imamoglu and early presidential elections in Millions of Turks. Ozel again insisted on the accusations against the opposition mayor are baseless and have political motives.
Imamoglu, 53, was arrested for corruption last week. In a separate case, he is accused of terrorism. The mayor of Istanbul denies all accusations.
The arrest of Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s potential rival in the next presidential election has caused national protests in one, tens of thousands of people left the streets, hundreds, including journalists, have been arrested.
President Erdogan described the protests for more than two decades.
