Fabio Florindo driving the Ingv, vision and priority for geosciences

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) makes use of Fabio Florind’s guide, a figure with a consolidated international scientific career and a significant experience in the field of geosciences. His mandate focuses on the strengthening of excellence and innovation, consolidating the role of Ingv as a global reference point in the sector.

Fabio Florindo graduated in Geological Sciences and a PhD (PhD) in Geophysics at the University of Southampton, in the United Kingdom. Inside the Ingv, he has traveled a career that led him to play the role of research manager. His management experience has been further proven by participation in the Board of Directors of the Body from 2022 and by the position of interim president previously held. Florindo is also associated with research at the Ismar-Cnr and the Oceanográfico Center of the Estraigráfico Register of the University of San Paolo, Brazil.

My commitment will be to strengthen the INGV with concrete actions that consolidate the role of scientific excellence globally“, declares Florindo. “Among my priorities there is undoubtedly the strengthening of monitoring networks, with the adoption of cutting -edge technologies for an increasingly timely response to natural risks“.

In line with this vision, the INGV will continue to promote interdisciplinary projects and strategic international collaborations. The goal is to effectively face contemporary global challenges, with particular attention to climate change and tectonic and volcanic processes affecting the planet. Florindo stresses that, through these initiativesThe INGV will continue to be a point of reference in the research on Earth Sciences, contributing significantly to the safety and understanding of our planet“.

Florindo is a geophysicist widely recognized in the international scientific panorama. He has operated as Principal Investigator in numerous large -scale research projects, among which the Andrill project stands out, which saw the collaboration between scientific institutions of Italy, Germany, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. His scientific production is vast and includes publications in first level scientific journals, testifying the significant impact of his work on global research.

Fabio Florindo’s scientific contribution has been recognized through numerous international prizes and honors. The American Geophysical Union (AGU) awarded him by an award for his contribution to the scientific community and elected him Fellow of thegu. He is a member of the Europaea Academy and has obtained the title of Doctor of Science from the University of Southampton for his significant contribution to geophysical research. In addition, his commitment to the scientific research program in Antarctica was recognized with the National Science Foundation Antarctic Service Medal, an important honor of the US program.
