War in Ukraine: Moscow will not be positioned clearly on the truce without “real pressure”, judge Zelensky

To move forward, it takes more pressure on Moscow, he assures. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that Russia had not given an adequate response to American initiatives to negotiate a cease-fire in Ukraine, for lack of “real pressure” exerted on it.

“For too long now, the American proposal for an unconditional ceasefire has remained on the table without adequate Russia,” said Volodymyr Zelensky in his evening speech.

Moscow and kyiv accepted the principle of a truce on the Black Sea following discussions with American representatives at the start of the week, but Russia then warned that it would not come into force until the Western countries have lifted certain sanctions.

A plan still pending

“A ceasefire could already have entered into force if there was real pressure on Russia,” he added, thanking the countries “which understand this” and have strengthened the pressure of the sanctions on the Kremlin.

President Donald Trump insists on a rapid end of the conflict, but his administration failed to obtain a concrete advance despite the indirect discussions with both parties.

President Vladimir Putin did not accept an American-Ukrainian plan for a thirty-day ceasefire and suggested on Friday that Volodymyr Zelensky was dismissed from his functions as part of the peace process, which sparked kyiv’s anger.
