Croatian Crisis Management Association and (HUKM) published a photo of a large fire in Pula, which firefighters, locals and tourists fought for as long as seven hours.
As they tell us in HUKM, the satellite image was taken in the morning hours. They were able to arrange ‘raw footage’ from a range of sensors to show the scale of the fire and the amount of smoke that enveloped the area.
According to Sunday’s information from the PU of Istria, they received a report about a forest fire on Premanturska cesta in Pula around 11:40 a.m. It was spread by a strong wind and threatened the settlements Valdebek, Dolinka and Vintijan. Fortunately, in this disaster, in which about 40 hectares of forest burned, none of the people were killed.
– The fire covered a large area of pine forest, low vegetation and dry grass, as well as several old cars parked in the yard of a business building at the address Kavrerski put. On Premanturska cesta, the fire engulfed a Citroen and a Mercedes car with Pula license plates – the police said. The fire is localized, and after the danger of any flare-up has ended, the police officers, in cooperation with the fire, explosives and weapons inspector, will conduct an investigation there to determine the cause and all the circumstances of the fire.
– I would like to thank everyone who made a huge effort regarding this tragedy that befell us. In the hope that we will fix it all quickly, this morning we went around the area and talked to fellow citizens who are there, whose yards were set on fire… everyone, from children to the elderly, is under stress and in fear, and thanks to the quick intervention of all those Canadians, the fire was quickly extinguished localized – he said this morning Pula Mayor Filip Zoričićwho arrived urgently from abroad due to the disaster.
Commander of the Pula Public Fire Department Ivica Rojnic he told how they managed to save the homes.
– There are no injuries, no victims, the houses have been saved – there is some damage, but it has not escalated and I can say that I am satisfied with how it has gone so far. We are still on duty, 26 firefighters with seven vehicles. A replacement has been made and additional forces are coming to clean up the edges of the fire during the day. The area will be treated and secured for days to come, and we will try to resolve as much as possible during today, because a storm is forecast for the night – said Rojnić.
