It dates back to 1998 the latest theft recorded at the Louvre. The afternoon of May 3, 27 years ago even then it was Sunday, a thief broke into a glass safety case containing a canvas of Camille Corot measuring 80×40 centimeters and tore it from the frame.
Immediately after the discovery of the theft, the exit doors of the Louvre were locked and for hours every visitor’s bags were carefully checked, without success. The arte rubata era opera ‘Le Chemin de Sèvres’ painted by Corot in 1858. The small painting, worth $1.3 million, has not yet been found.
