DFB President Bernd Neuendorf says he attaches top priority to upgrading the women’s Bundesliga. This needs to be “urgently professionalized,” said the association boss in an interview with the “Frankfurter Rundschau”. “We will set up our own company together with the clubs. The DFB is making around 100 million euros available for this,” Neuendorf continued.
In September, the supervisory board and shareholders’ meeting of DFB GmbH & Co. KG decided on “key points” for a league growth plan at a joint meeting. The foundation of the company is to be concluded at the DFB Bundestag on November 7th at the association headquarters in Frankfurt am Main.
“The clubs will also participate substantially in this process. It is the DFB’s largest investment since the campus was built. Together we have a great interest in keeping our best players in the country and presenting a strong league here,” Neuendorf continued. This season, 14 teams are playing in the women’s Bundesliga for the first time – previously there were twelve.
