Bundesliga matchday: Drama for Augsburg, victories for Wolfsburg and Frankfurt

Eighth matchday in the Bundesliga: There’s a lot going on in the stadiums, but also on the streets and on the trains. Not everything went smoothly in the football republic, but in the end there were five games with five results. Here is the brief overview:

What was going on in the streets?

A lot, at least around the independent city of Mönchengladbach. The FC Bayern bus was stuck in a traffic jam and the team arrived late at the arena. So, at the request of the Munich team, the kick-off was pushed back 15 minutes – 3:45 p.m. instead of 3:30 p.m. “The bus didn’t get any further, but we’re still here,” Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said on television. His team took it easy and won 3-0 at the bottom of the table.

And on the trains?

Even then, not everything went as planned. Supporters of FC St. Pauli and VfL Wolfsburg met at Hanover main station, which, like every Saturday, served as a hub for fans from half of the country. The result: a lot of brawling (including throwing bottles, physical injuries and insults) that had to be sorted out by the police. As the journey continued, trains carrying fans of both clubs were stopped; Many supporters were not allowed to continue the journey and missed the respective away games.

This was particularly unfortunate for those Wolfsburg fans who missed their team’s best performance in weeks in Hamburg: Wolfsburg won 1-0 away, benefiting from a missed penalty by HSV striker Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer.

What’s going on with Augsburg?

22 minutes had been played and coach Sandro Wagner’s team was already 3-0 behind against RB Leipzig in their own stadium. The quick goals from Yan Diomande, Romulo and Antonio Nusa clearly demonstrated Leipzig’s superiority. Augsburg made hair-raising mistakes, Leipzig punished them – the matter actually wasn’t any more complicated to interpret. The attrition continued, because Christoph Baumgartner, Assan Ouedraogo and Castello Lukeba also scored, and the game even ended 0:6. It was the heaviest home defeat in Augsburg’s Bundesliga history. In this condition, Wagner’s team is a candidate for relegation.

Why does Hoffenheim play in pink?

To raise awareness of the “Together Against Breast Cancer” initiative. A commendable affair, and the unusual pink jerseys did not harm the Hoffenheim team in any way in terms of sport. In pink, TSG achieved their first home win of the season, winning 3-1 against 1. FC Heidenheim after goals from Fisnik Asllani, Tim Lemperle and Andrej Kramaric. Hoffenheim is stalking the top group of the league, while Heidenheim remains in a relegation zone.

And did Frankfurt actually keep a clean sheet?

Yes, hard to believe! After conceding 23 goals in six games, Eintracht won 2-0 against FC St. Pauli this time. Jonathan Burkardt scored twice at the front, and at the back? No one! Really!
