Serie A: Kevin De Bruyne’s serious, somewhat stupid injury which will keep him away from the field for several months

Some players have already faked an injury to celebrate a goal. Others got hurt while celebrating their achievement. Kevin De Bruyne almost drew a line under the rest of 2025 by taking a penalty on Saturday. If he scored his attempt from 11 meters against Inter Milan (33rd) and put Naples on the path to victory – 3-1 at the finish – the Belgian international had to leave his team in the wake of his opening score.

Immediately after deceiving Yann Sommer, the 34-year-old attacking midfielder held the back of his right thigh. This Monday, Naples gave news of the former Manchester City star, who took exams, and it is not good. “KDB” suffers “from a serious lesion of the biceps femoris of the right thigh”, indicated the Neapolitan club via a press release published on its website.

Four goals in Serie A

Although he has already started the rehabilitation process, De Bruyne risks missing several months of competition. According to several Italian media, the duration of his absence could stretch over three months. Last year, he missed a month and a half at the start of his last exercise in Manchester due to a similar problem. It’s a setback for the Belgian, who contributed four goals – including three penalties – to the Partenopei’s current first place in the Italian Championship standings.

He had played the first eight Serie A matches as well as three Champions League matches. The former Wolfsburg player served two assists for his team against Sporting (2-1) during the 2nd day of the C1 league phase. However, it is not certain that De Bruyne will be able to improve his statistics for a while.
