Oier Lazkano, provisionally suspended due to anomalies in his Biological Passport

The Spanish cyclist Oier Lazkano was provisionally suspended this Thursday by the International Cycling Union (UCI) for anomalies in his Biological Passport in 2022, 2023 and 2024, the seasons in which he raced for the Movistar Team.

The UCI announced the suspension of the rider from Vitoria, 25 years old and currently in the Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, through a statement in which it reported anomalies not explained by the athlete in the electronic record where the results of all the anti-doping controls collected during a certain period are collated.

In this case, the International Testing Agency (ITA), an independent entity to which the UCI delegated its anti-doping program, manages this program in collaboration with the Athlete’s Passport Management Unit (APMU) in Lausanne (Switzerland).

As reported by the UCI, these cases related to the biological passport of a runner are analyzed and processed based on the evaluation of an independent panel of APMU experts. “The UCI will not make any further comments while the process is ongoing,” the statement on Lazkano’s situation said.

In this case, the biological passport of the Basque cyclist, Spanish road champion in 2023, presented anomalies in the years 2022, 2023 and 2024, when he belonged to the Movistar Team, so he is now provisionally suspended from all competition.
