A lawyer from Chicago is accused of murdering his wife who fell 20 stories

Caitlin Tracy, a former executive at a consulting company in the field of artificial intelligence, was found dead in October 2024. Her body was discovered at the bottom of a staircase in a luxury building in the South Loop neighborhood (South Loop) in Chicago.

The 36-year-old was found suffering from multiple injuries and her leg was amputated, after falling from a height of more than twenty floors. Her husband, the 47-year-old lawyer Adam Beckrink, who had already served a prison sentence for assaulting her, was arrested again – this time on charges of first degree murder.

According to reports, Beckerink tried to cover up his actions by making a false report to the police, stating that he had not seen his wife for a month. However, the security cameras in the building revealed the two together three days before her death. The new indictment was filed exactly one year after the tragedy, bringing the Tracy family back to the horror.

“We hope that the truth will come out,” the family members said. During an earlier trial in Michigan, Caitlin’s mother, Monica Tracy, described how her daughter’s life had deteriorated since she met Beckerink.

“It wasn’t long after he came into her life that fear took over her,” Monica said. She told about severe violence that included strangulation, beatings and repeated assaults, as well as how “Bakerin took her phone when she tried to call for help.” According to her, “He pursued her, abused her and isolated her psychologically from everyone who loved her.”

Caitlin issued a restraining order against her husband in November 2023, but did not have time to exercise it. Shortly after, according to her family, he made her a prisoner in her home and life. He is currently serving a 93-day prison sentence in Michigan for domestic violence and contempt of court, and only after the end of his prison term will he be transferred to Chicago to stand trial for his wife’s murder. Caitlin’s mother concluded in court: “Instead of meeting my daughter for dinner, we visit her grave. There is no justice in the world that can heal this pain.”
