The 0.3 percent contraction of the gross domestic product occurred due to the uncertainty generated by the changes in US tariff policy, with a particular impact on the automotive sector, said President Claudia Sheinbaum. However, he considered that based on the most recent positive data on the evolution of employment, it is anticipated that this downward trend in the economy will be reversed in the last quarter of the year and by 2026, when the effects of public and private investment will already be reflected.
He stressed that the closures of some automotive plants in Mexico do not respond to these new tariff measures, they are the product of previous decisions made by these companies, because the models produced in Mexico will leave the market, according to what he has been able to discuss with global executive directors.
