After many days of care at Ly Son, three people who survived 50 hours drifting at sea were transferred to Da Nang and Quang Ngai hospitals with muscle damage.
On the afternoon of November 14, Mr. Le Van Sanh, 37 years old, was treated at Da Nang General Hospital and Phan Duy Quang, 47 years old, was treated at Quang Ngai General Hospital. Muscle damage led to increased liver enzymes. Mr. Duong Quang Cuong, 44 years old, was treated at Quang Ngai General Hospital for severe enteritis.
These three people were transferred from Ly Son island to the mainland to the above two hospitals from November 9 (Cuong), November 11 (Quang) and November 12 (Sanh) because they needed better monitoring and treatment. Currently, Mr. Quang’s liver enzyme index has begun to decrease.

Doctor Duong Tien Thuan, Director of Ly Son District Military and Civilian Medical Center, explained that all three people suffered from weakness and muscle damage due to overexertion in a state of hunger and thirst during 50 hours drifting at sea. Prolonged muscle damage leads to increased liver enzymes. In addition, soaking in sea water and being exposed to the sun for many hours causes the skin of their upper body, especially the face, to become severely inflamed.
According to family members, Mr. Sanh and Quang had peeling skin but were recovering well. However, due to an abnormal increase in liver enzymes, it was decided to move them to the mainland for better treatment. As for Mr. Cuong, Dr. Thuan said that due to prolonged hunger and thirst, after being rescued, he immediately ate and drank a lot, causing his digestive system to not have time to adapt, causing severe enteritis.

Previously, on the afternoon of November 6, seeing Cuong jump into the sea from a fishing boat, Quang and Sanh rushed to save him. Strong winds and waves caused by storm No. 13 (Kalmaegi) pushed all three people drifting more than 120 km south, to the waters of Gia Lai province. After about 50 hours at sea, all three were fortunately discovered and rescued by different cargo ships and fishing vessels.
