For the second consecutive year, La Casa Encendida will become the epicenter of contemporary poetry from this Thursday to Saturday with ‘Poetas’ the interdisciplinary festival that celebrates its 20 years of experience defending cultural resistance.
In a statement, the festival management highlighted that there will be more than 20 artistic proposals –between recitals, concerts, screenings and performances– with the focus on dance as a poetic and social language, the central axis of a program that also includes three film sessions and a great final party for the two decades of history of the festival.
The inaugural screening will be on the 20th in the Patio of La Casa Encendida with ‘Outrider’, the documentary about the life of Anne Waldmanpoet and key figure of the American counterculture, produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by Alystyre Julian. Both will be present at the session.
The film reviews Waldman’s career from his beginnings in the New York scene of the sixties alongside the Beat generation, to the creation of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, a school that redefined the teaching of poetry in the United States.
This Friday, the film section will continue with a special session by the filmmaker and poet Carmen Pedrerofocused on the relationship between body and movement, while This Saturday, director Isaki Lacuesta will close the programming with a session that explores his own dance images.
POETRY, MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE
That same day, after the cinema, the stage program will open with ‘Fantasma Sur’, the project of Alondra Bentley and Yliawith visuals by Isaki Lacuesta and Albert Coma. At 7:40 p.m., British poet Joelle Taylor will offer a reading thanks to the Versopolis platform, followed by Ruiseñora, Extremaduran-Canarian duo that will present their new album ‘Palmerita, Palmerita’. The day continues with Elsa Moreno, who will present ‘Practices to immanecer’and ends with ‘The Grooves Experience’ de Marina Pravkinaa piece about clubbing as a contemporary ritual where the audience becomes part of the dance.
This Saturday it will open with Bob Pop and the performance piece from his collection of poems ‘En cuerpo presente’, followed by the performance ‘Una Fiesta Salvaje’, which proposes a communion between human voices and birdsong. At 7 p.m., the Ciudad Bailar collective will transform the Patio into a choreographic reflection on public space and political agitation. will follow la poeta holandesa Nisrine Mbarki, also invited by Versopolis, with the reading of her work ‘Oeverloos (Shoreless)’.
Mbarki will also anticipate the reading of the great protagonist of this edition, Anne Waldman, with her recital of ‘Palabra desenfrenada’. The day will continue with the piece ‘Hygiene’, by Sabina Urracaand will culminate with The Space Lady concerta legendary American artist who lands in Spain for the first time to close the festival.
As a finishing touch, The night will continue in the Sala Villanos with the final party of the 20-year celebration, with dance music sessions starring Músicas Posibles (with Lara López, Javier Gallego Crudo and Dj Floro) and later the DJs Meritxell de Soto and Ylia.
